the view at ottawa international airport
don't be a stranger

we live in a time where traveling has become more accessible than ever and people are experiencing new levels of interconnectivity. the airport is a space that facilitates travel and connection, it grants people access to their loved ones or to new opportunities. airports have a more nuanced definition in my mind because of my own experiences and memories within them, especially ottawa's airport. with the exception of my mom, step-dad and my older brother, my whole family lives outside of ontario. moving to ottawa meant separating myself even more from any familial connection i had close by. now i find myself in airports a couple times a year as i travel to see family members on the east coast. i was inspired by a phoebe bridgers song titled scott street to create this piece about the isolation that comes with coming of age and moving away from your family.
